Well Hello there & a Sunny Dane invasion beach romp

I can't believe its been 6mths since I've updated the boys blog. Its not that we have been busy and can't find the time, its simply "we forgot"
So anyways things around here haven't really changed much, Stripe has had a few visits to the vet to check out this damm absess he has on his leg, were doing another 2 weeks of Antibiotics with the option of another 2 more weeks if i feel it needs it, if not we will look at a short anaesthetic and try to flush it out incase there is something in the wound we dont know about. My wonderful vet also gave stripe a health check and we are pleased to report he passed with flying colours, no signs of any Arthritis at all, his heart is fantastic, he will be 9 in April so this is just fantastic and such a testament to me as his owner :) he's spoilt lol no really i do what i can to prevent his old age eventually catching up with him, so he does get MSN and Gucosamine added to his meal and also Fish oil caps with Added Vit E.

Yesterday 29.12.11 we caught up with 6 other Danes and had a Dane Invasion as we called it at Shelly Beach we all had a fantastic time and all the danes got along brilliantly, Stripe was the eldest there closely followed by his harlequin friend Sparkles whom is 7, and then the rest were young wiper snappers hehe. I made stripe stop just over half way on our walk on the beach with the others as i didn't want him to push himself , so we had some "us" time and offlead time while no one was there and i managed to get some awesum pics of him too.Pics are below.

You know Stripe has always been the most laid back guy, with the best temprement ever, and i honestly thought that he may be "LESS" tolerant now that he's older, well you know what he hasn't changed one bit, he let the wiper snapper youngster danes lick his jowls, paw at him, and bounce all in his face and he didn't blink an eye at any of it. from now on I'm going to trust him like i should have done in the first place and not think he may change with his age. So proud of you Stripe MWAHHHHH

Anyways will def try and keep the blog more updated, we hope you all had an amazing christmas and have a safe new year won't you, make sure your dogs are safe and secure because of those morris fireworks

Birthday, New Camera and New Collar

In my last post you would have read that Mumma had got a new camera, it was part of her birthday pressie as it was her birthday on the 23rd of june. Dadda Brought mumma the new Canon DSLR 550d, and she loves it!!

Mumma has been taking soo many pics with her new camera, but she says it's going to take a while to learn how to use it properly.

Mumma Also brought me a new collar for my Birfday from And that Arrived yesterday, so mumma also took pics of me modelling it .

Ill get mumma to post some pics, Everyone is sick at our house with a head cold, so not much has been happening.
Oh and before i forget, mumma had to take me to the vets for my owie, i had an absess on my leg, and needed Antibiotics from my lovely vet Katrina ( its time like that, that mumma wishes she was still working at a vet hospital and not at home with my likkle human brover lol)

Its Cold and Raining here again, so i thought it would be a good time to finally do a post on the blog.
Firstly im sorry we dont post much atm, i hope you all understand its very busy with a baby in the house again, but we will get there and back to blogging and back in the showring.

Stripe is crusing along, but he has a sore leg, so we havent been doing much. Ive brought him this gorgeous collar ( see below) as a get well soon from mummy ( me ) hes a bit spoilt.

on the 13th of April we celebrated Stripes 8th Birthday. To reach this grand old age for a great dane is such a big milestone as they dont have a very long life span at all (8-10yrs) He got a yummy jiucy bone, and will be getting some lovely nice new jammies from
once they have their great dane sized great white north next month.

So between recovering from a ceaser, looking after a newborn, interacting with the dogs as they didnt get much attention at all during the last few days of my pregnancy and while i was in hospital, and housework, im finally able to sit down at the computer and add a new post to the blog.

Stripes nephew "Dollop" made him some new jammies for winter, and he loves them, even though they are pink ( or salmon as dollop n his mummy say)
now to find some for loomis.
The dogs are settling down with having Levi here now, stripe seems apprehensive when levi cries though, like hes wanting to make sure hes ok, but he wont get too close as thats what ive asked of both the dogs atm, they lie down next to him if hes in his bouncer and im there, or they are at my feet if im on the lounge with levi.

FINALLY!!

11 days over due, We would like to welcome levi paul to the family. Weighing in at a whopping 9lb 15oz. via c section

Stripe and loomis are very happy to have me home, but dont quiet understand why i cant cuddle and snuggle them as yet, due to my scar and being sore.

Stripe gets extreamly excited and gets shaky when you walk by with levi, and loomis looks aleart and the tail does not stop wagging on them both.
will get some pics of my oys with their human brother in the next few weeks

Well its not long now till the Arrival of our new family member, yep you guessed it, im ( stripes mummy) due to give birth this month. Im officially due the 31st of this month, but im hopeing he decides to come early.
I cant wait for stripe and loomis to meet their new little brother, stripe adores his Aneesa ( my daughter) and id say he will be the same with this lil one, hes so laid back that gorgeous dane of mine.

i have some new pics of Stripe and loomis, but will have to upload them first in the next few days

well i havent had time to make a new Christams card with the doggies on it this year, im sorry.

We ( stripe & Loomis's humans) have been very busy today ( christmas eve ) making a pavlova and a Lemon Cheescake for the family gatherings we have tomorrow. ive uploaded a pic of the Cheesecake for you

And just a reminder not to feed your belovid doggies any christmas ham, or any fatty fatty foods over the christmas break ( or any other time for that matter) we want our gorgeous animals to stay happy and healthy, as they can get very very sicky with pancreatitis and end up in hospital.

Well what a few weeks we have had here.
Firstly we moved into a bigger house ready for when the baby comes, then we were mucked around byt our local internet/phone provider and had no internet connection for almost 5 weeks!!! OMG WAS I BORED.

Stripe and loomis are doing great, few things planned with great dane events coming up such as the great dane club of nsw's Fun day, and also the club's Open show.

Have found out that we are having a baby BOY, deciding on names is the hardest part now, i'd really like to call our son "dane" of couse but spelt Dayne, but husband isnt to keen * HUMPF*

On Another note Yesterday 08/09 would have been Nitro's 6th birthday, i sooo miss having my goofey boy around. I hope he had a great day in heaven with my dad looking after him.. so Happy Birthday Nitro ( here is a pic of me and my boy just before he passed away)

Will also be starting some clicker training challenges shortly, so will keep you all in the know about those.
For now though enjoy some piccies taken while i had no internet

A Catch up

I know i know, we havent posted on the blog for ages. To be honest, since loosing my beautiful nitro in march, i just havent had the heart to blog. I guess my heart was still hurting and it always will, but its getting easier.

well i guess its down to business now for the catch up on whats been going on.

Stripe is doing well, he gave me a massive massive scare the other week, i honestly thought i was going to loose him as he wasnt well at all. Took him to the vet clinic im back working at ( where i was previously) and he has prostitis, Hes on a strong dose of antibiotics, and had to have a hormone injection. if it returns ( because hes entire i may have to think about giving him the sterilization implant or getting him desexed. Im really hopeing i dont have to desex him yet as im still wanting to continue to show him.
hes not slowing down with age yet either, ive got him on Green lipped NZ muscle capsules and msn powder which seem to be doing their job.

we had a photoshoot today for the new emaill and website our vet clinic is doing, my bosses didnt know i had such large dogs ( great danes of course) so he specifically wanted pics of me and stripe for the new website.

On some other news, hubby and i are expecting our second child!!!!! There will be almost 9 years between this bub and our now 8 yr old daughter, but thats ok right!! Matts exstatic, but im still in shock i guess lol. Bubs will be due jan 31 2011, so ill be showing even more sparingly for the next little while, but my wonerful Friend/mentor/breeder will show stripe if need be.

Hellllooooooo everyone.

mummy finally has time t sit at the computer and write on my blog for me, never enough hours in the day she says.
mummy and i had a show last weekend, the judge told mum i looked fantastic for 7 yrs old!!! i dont think he believed her at first. I was full of beans and wanted to gallop around the ring, tee hee

ya can tell winter is on its way, mummy has been putting my winter jammies on of a night, and she has also set up my massive crate in the loungeroom, so that i can now sleep inside properly YIPIEEEEE!!! ( nic here, stripe n nitro used to sleep outside, but the room they had was attached to the house and insulated like a sun room, now that nitro isnt with us anymore stripe can have the creature comforts all to himself)

mum is also doing some more clicker training with loomis, hes learning to shut doors atm, she says i leave massive goober slingers, so she will do the inside challenges with my likkle blue brother.

Anyways mum has to be off and get ready for that thing she call's work.

Back from a Great Day showing at the NSW Great Dane Club's Championship Show.

Had an Awesum Awesum Day with Great Company.
Stripe Came 4th out of 6 in his normal open dog class ( the judge didnt like any coloured danes other than fawn)
I Showed my breeder's Girl " Shimmer" in Best Harlequin and Won that class for her.

And Stripe won " BEST MANTLE IN SHOW" WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
he won it back in 2007, and now again in 2010.

Ok So im a member of a purebreed dog forum ( although its open to anyone whom would like to join) and in that forum there are many diff section and subsection's.

Yep we are quiet on the blog front once again, i cant seem to find the pics to upload from my new camera to here or photobucket for that matter, so ill have to get takin pics on my phone again.

So in one of my previous posts, i showed you a Bling Bling lead i had brought to how the boys in, well i have since brought another one, and have just ordered another too.

they are made by the very talented Mel from Bling by Fyrth ( thats her facebook lead Page) So check them out, i highly reccomend them.

Here are 2 pics of the leads that 1 i have brought and 2 have just ordered.

I have entered Stripe in Some more shows next month after a break over summer, i didnt want to stress him out in the heat at shows, even though he would have had his cool coat on.

On a sadder note. Stripe's litter brother " jed" whom looked identical to him passed away on the 12.2.10

jed was such a wonderful boy and is the daddy of Nitro. RIP jeddy bear, we loved you and will miss you terribly.

Jed would have been 7 in april along with stripe.

Mummy Brought a New Camera

Firstly Happy Australia Day for Tomorrow 26/1/10.

Australia Day is big Celebration for us Australians, and its also a public Holiday ( YAY)

Mummy finally brought herself a new sml Camera the other day as her other one was Broken'd she said, Hence whey she hasnt posted many pics or posts of us Latley.

Were not very good posing subjects as we like to be right near our mummy lol we follow her everywhere.

Now mummy is still working out where exactly her pics are when she uploads them from her camera lol, but here are some pics of our furry siblings which we would really like to eat if we ever got a chance ( but mummy says we cant, shes a spoil sport hmpffff)

Wowzers, since my last post things have been hectic here. I only had public holidays off from work, and the others days i was busy at work.

We all Had a winderful christmas and new year, had the family over christmas day afternoon, but unfortunatly the boys didnt get to join in with that celebration, just incase any naughty relatives fed the boys ham ( which is very very bad for dogs).

New years was also a quiet one, i had to work the late shift at the veterinary clinic and didnt finish till 7 pm. By the time id gotten home, played with the boys, fed then an hr later i really didnt feel like celebrating much, so went to bed ( damm i must be getting old LOL).

The Boys Are doing great, coping with the heat of typical aussie summer while im at work, Stripe had a lump that i was going to get removed surgically ( Cant remember if i posted about that here) but as per my vets advice ( She thought it was a non cancerous hysticycoma, and would dissapear by itself) it has thanfully dissapeared. i was sooooo stressing about him having an anaesthetic ( even though im a vet nurse lol).

No new pics of them this post im afraid, but i have a few days off this week, so will get posting for you all.

A Merry Christmas poem

T'was the night before Christmas, and all through the house
The puppies were squeaking an old rubber mouse.

The stockings that hung in a nice straight row,
Were now crooked with holes chewed through each little toe.

The wreath that had merrily hung on the door
Was scattered in pieces all over the floor.

The tree was subjected to bright-eyed whims,
And now, though still splendid, it's missing some limbs.

I catch them and hold them. "Be good", I insist.
They lick me, then run off to see what they've missed.

And now as I watch them, the thought comes to me,
That their's is the spirit that Christmas should be.

Can children and puppies yet show us the way,

Well The Big International Show that i had entered Stripe in has been and gone. I was supposed to show on the sunday but i shall tell you more about that in a min.

Sat was Stinkin hot, in the high 30's I was worried about how Stripe would cope, being that he is an older dane now ( 7 in april) so was doing everything possibly to keep him comfortable in the heat ( which i sucseeded with btw) He Placed 2nd in his class. Thats ok. Headed off to the house we were staying at for the night with my breeder/mentor leanne, made sure the doggies were settled and then got stuck into some nibbles and a few glasses of champers.

Turs out that the heat, along with dehydration & Alcohol didnt agree with me, which saw me not sleeping at all sat night, and vomiting ( Sorry)all night. I left the house at 2 am for what was supposed to be a 1.5 hr drive home, which took me 4 hrs, i didnt make it all the way home as i just couldnt drive anymore, so my darling husband had to come rescue me from the side of the road about 1/2 hr to 1hr away from home.

Sunday was even hotter that sat, i spent the day in bed with nurse Stripe by my side lol i slept most of the day and so did he lol.

Thankfully i am now feeling much much better. The joys of it all lol.

Next, well Im a member of a Purebred dog forum here in Australia called Dogzonline There are breed specific threads there, and in the dane thread we are doing a clicker challenge, and i think the lovely honey has been joining in and giving us great tips too.

Firstly we boys owe you's guys whom follow our blog and apology, our mumma has been flat out working lookin after all the other sickie dogs that go to her work, she hasnt found time to blog.

We boys are doin good, last week we had the sickies like our beautiful friend Honey, but i think we had it a bit worse from BOTH ends ICK!!!, Luckily mummy works for vets so brought some medicine home to make us feel lots better, it worked for us big masculine boys, but our likkle brover Loomis needed something a bit more and is on stuff mum calls antibiotics.

Our daddy loves us sooooo very much, mummy has been wanting to get us some spethial bed for some time now we boys are getting older and more dignified, so daddy ordered us BOTH the XL Snooza D1000 beds... check em out

And Lastly ermmmm after quiet a looooonggggggggggggg break from showing, we are attending a bigggg International on the 19th & 20th of this month, mummy says we will start back showing regulaly as shes missed it, so pls wish me ( Sexy Stripe) Luck

A Pointless Post really

I Havent posted on the blog for a lil while now, not much to say really when your working so many late shifts.

Today i spent the day at home washing and hanging out with my daughter and the boys. My Stepdad's brother works in a factory that deals with Sheepskin, and he sooooo kindly brought 6 home for my boys :0)

Here are some Randome pics of them louging round for the day. Now all i need to find them is some nice big plush beds to put under the sheepskin.

Im Still on the lookout for a new dane pup to join our family, im in no rush, the right one WILL come along eventually. Ive Entered Stipe into the big international Spring Fair Show, we havent shown in almost 12mths i think ( wow it dosent feel that long) but its time we got back out

Now the weather is starting to warm up here, ive decided its time to get back in the show ring with Stripe.

Now i do have a collar addiction, and ive now found another addication i can have apart from the danes of course.

So my new addiction is collecting bling bling dog show leads, a beautiful boy like stripe can never have too many bling bing show leads right??

Poor Loomie

Loomie had to accompany me to work yesterday ( friday) With no warning signs or anything unusual a big swelling appeared on loomy's tummy, half of it was hard and hot to touch, the other half was fluid like. It had also gotten bigger over night and in the morning while at work before being looked at.

Anyways After a needle aspiration and having 2 vets a bit stumped, hes being treated for MASTITIS!!!! Now hes a boy, and ive never heard of mastitis in males before.

Im so lucky i work for vets lol.

Feeling Down

Well today i ( Nicola ) am feeling down in the dumps. We went to read our friend/nephew's Blog "Braise" yesterday and found out that our darling Braise Had Kidney Failure and was PTS.

We Love you Braise, Run Free beautiful, My daddy paul will look after you.

On a Brighter Note, it was such a warm day here in oz, it was bath day, much to the boys dissmay lol.

As Soon as i got the towels and Shampoo out they knew exactly what it meant. They were all ever so good geting a bath, i think they must have felt vert refreshed afterwards, as they went silly, but i forgot my camera then didnt i DOH!!!

I did However manage to get these pics of them all posing for mummy nicely( i had treats in my hand) lol

Gosh, what do you say about a dog that has your heart n soul. This boy is the love of my life ( apart from hubby n daughter of course) He is ALWAYS so very happy to see me when i get home, n this face says it all. Hes a complete mummy's boy and follows me everywhere. Loves everybody and everyone. You meet stripe once and youll never forget him.

This pic was taken a few yrs ago now on a lovely hot aussie summer day, Stripe had come to the back door to check on what i was doing, lucky for me i had the camera on hand, coz i got doused with slobber right after this pic lol. Poor nitro and loomis miss out on this taggin business, so mayby well have to do another oneday

we took the opportunity to take pics and some video's. Mummy hasn't done any clicker training with any of us as she's been working so much latley helping take care of other sick doggy's n cats.

Can you see how much stripe is greying in the face >>> My baby boy is getting old now n starting to show the signs with his grey hair nooooooo

Nitro has a lick granuloma on his foot, and man oh man no matter what im doing hes still finding a way to either rip the special booties his aunty sacha gave him, the bandages, socks etc etc off.

Now ive read up on these things and they say it can be boredom, injury related etc etc, and he is neither of those.

Tonight i concocted a mixture of Extra spicey herbs mixed in with pertolium jelly and plastered it onto his bandage, then let it settle and sprayed it with fly repelant. Nitro also has to wear a comfy cone ( elizabethan collar) and hes still managing his naughty actions

Does anyone have any suggestions on what else i can do? Antibiotics etc etc dont work either

Not really much to report, its raining constantly, our backyard is too wet to even think about letting the boys out to run, and because its soooo wet, they havent been able to come inside as much as they normally are, they are filthy.

Hopefully this rain dissapears real soon so we can get a bloggin again

Well last weekend saw me ( the boys mummy) head to our breeder/mentor's place to help her show Nitro & Stripes relatives ( you guessed it, i forgot to enter the boys).

The girls did fabulous all weekend, taking out BOB,Challenge points & minor in group.

Ohh im soo thankful to my great friend sacha for inviting me to go and see ceaser milan with her. He was amazing, a great sense of humor, and really knows his stuff. I had to buy myself a t shirt which ill have to take a pic of, and i was also loaded home with dvd's and books galore to read on of his also.

ive always been big on my obedience etc etc with my dogs, but im really enjoying getting into it more and more. Heres a few pics taken by a friend

Cease was overwhelmed at the applause and cheers as he walked out on stage and did get a bit emotional. He thanks us all so very much and said he loves us australians. As you can see from the pics, it was crowded

well I have decided to start the boys ( well nitro first) on Clicker training. Im starting to read When pigs fly .. training success with impossible dogs by jane killion. And i have the clicker triple crown.

My daddy has decided to take my brother stripe to work wif him today, i want to go too, but daddy says im a typical harlequin and very full on, which might scare the customers coz of my size.

But all is not lost i get to spend the day wif my mummy, which is awesum, ill have her all to myself :0) . She said somefin about takinm me down to the lakefront at the entrance and takin some pics of her handsome harlequin boy as she calls me. I loves my mummy very much.

It was such a nice day here yesterday, The boys had a bath ( much to their horror).
